National Youth Week – City of Armadale gets loud!
Want to get “Loud in the Library”?
The City of Armadale is launching a new initiative, “Loud in the Library”, during National Youth Week to encourage local young people aged 12-18 to use its fantastic public library facilities.
Armadale library will hold a cartooning workshop on Thursday 7 April from 5pm to 6.30pm, hosted by the well-known cartoonist, James Foley, while Seville Grove library will hold a drumming workshop on Friday 8 April from 6.30pm to 8pm, facilitated by Rhythm Fix.
Young people 12-18 are encouraged to come along and participate in these FREE workshops; bookings are strongly advised, as numbers are limited. Contact Armadale Library on 9399 0125 and Seville Grove Library on 9399 0800.
James Foley started drawing cartoons for his school newspaper and later worked on the Curtin University newspaper and Notre Dame University's 'Quasimodo' magazine. His professional career began in 2003 for WA’s Quokka newspaper and by 2010 he had drawn nearly 300 full-colour cartoons.
Rhythm Fix play at many local festivals and inspire young people to use drums for rhythmic expression and highlighting the importance of drumming to strengthen the community.
Armadale Mayor Linton Reynolds said the youth workshops had inspired a range of fantastic posters from talented Media students at Armadale’s Polytechnic West.
“All of these original artworks will be exhibited throughout National Youth Week from 1-10 April in City of Armadale libraries,” Cr Reynolds said.
“Other young people are encouraged to contact their local library with artworks they would like to exhibit during this period.
“Or just come in to one of our libraries at Armadale, Kelmscott and Seville Grove and explore some of the extensive educational and recreational resources we have, including computers, access to online databases and Armadale’s library’s youth zone.”
**Polytechnic West’s Armadale’s campus still has places available for its 2011 media course. For more information contact 9267 7500.
